I wanna be a manwolf.

Be A Manwolf Today from éS Skateboarding on Vimeo.
I like where eS is going with their new ads. I think I’ll have to pick some of these up so I can be a manwolf.
Like it or not, I thought it was pretty entertaining.
Odyssey Texas Toast Jam
by Lalo on May.24, 2011, under bikes
Taj and the Odyssey gang decided it was time to host a BMX contest in the heart of Austin this year. Rather than doing the same old “Dew Tour” routine, they decided to make it fun for the riders as well as spectators. The contest runs the weekend May 27-29 and includes events like “The Gauntlet of Death”, Bunny-hop contest, curved wall, best trick and a good old fashioned dirt contest. Apparently the BMX celebrity turn out is going to be huge so if you are anywhere near Austin, you should definitely make it a point to attend.
Here is the scoop from the man himself.
Hush, don’t say a word…
by Lalo on Mar.29, 2011, under bikes
You know your day is off to a great start when you begin your ride getting bucked over the handlebars. This weekend I made it over to Walnut for what I thought was going to be a relaxed session. For those who haven’t been there, the main trail entrance starts with a steep 18 foot tall hill launching you up another hill and then into the trails. As I started my brakeless decent here, I looked down to a mountain biker’s bewildered expression as he contemplated which way to go to avoid a high seed collision. My cry of “Oh shit dude, I don’t have brakes” was futile since he decided the best way to go was directly in my path. The wreck was inevitable. As I peeled myself off the ground and dusted the dirt off my back, I watched brainiac’s expression go from remorseful to angry when he realized what the crash did to his wheel. “Are you okay?” I asked. All he said was “I guess there goes my day of riding”. I can’t say I felt bad for the guy.
Luckily for me my bike was fine. After riding a few hours I ran into some dudes that gave me a few clues about where to find fabled Hush trails. I’d never been there but knew that Adam and the builders weren’t Nazis like some other guy’s around here. They weren’t hard to find. I was thrilled to see the vibe was really relaxed there and these diggers were really welcoming. It’s obvious how much hard work went into the trails and they are just glad to show them off. Here are a few pics from the day:
New Austin Concrete Park
by Lalo on Mar.22, 2011, under news
I’m a bit late with this news, but thought I’d post some recent pictures of the new concrete skate park taking shape in Downtown Austin. For those not familiar, for several years Austin Parks and Recreation allowed some ramps to be put up in an abandoned tennis court near N. Lamar and Shoal Creek Trail (aka Greenpark). These ramps saw their fair share of use but the city thought they’d put some bond money to use and renovate the entire place. I’m not clear on the opening date, but it’s rumored to open up this summer. I can’t wait.
EP Ed Pictorial
by Lalo on Feb.23, 2011, under bikes
So I recently had this text conversation with Richie. Knowing him, I normally wouldn’t open an email he described as “gay half naked”, but my curiosity got the best of me. Does that make me gay? I was pleasantly surprised to find this photo shot by EP Ed. This winter has been particularly shitty here in Austin so the photo reminds me of the warmer days to come. It also proves that Mr. Sanchez can still shred when he wants to. Anyhow, Richie’s email mentioned Ed also shot another set of pics. I didn’t hesitate to ask Ed to send them my way and here is what I got. Check them out after the jump.

I’m back bitches!
by Lalo on Feb.15, 2011, under news
Man, it’s been way too long since I’ve updated the site. I really have no excuse this time. To be honest, I just had a bunch of other things taking up my time. It started with me deciding I wanted to run a 1/2 marathon with my ol’ lady. Considering that most of the running I’ve ever done was either in gym class or trying to evade a security guard, I had my work cut out for me. In the end, after plenty of blood, sweat, and tears, I finished my 13.1 miles but realized running isn’t for me. I’ll stick to two wheels.
Aside from running these last few months, throw in a boat cruise to Mexico, fundraising for a triathlon, a new TV (with Netflix), and a new interest in MTB racing and well, you end up where I am now. Anyway, 3 months is way too long to go without an update, so I figured I’d make a few changes soon. Hopefully I could enlist a few contributors… Anyone interested?
I’ll be posting some fresh content soon so keep your eyes peeled. In the mean time, check out this video by Arcade Fire. It reminds me of my early BMX days.
Anthem 2
by Lalo on Nov.02, 2010, under bikes
It looks like Stew finally decided on a release date for his long awaited sequel to the originial Anthem video. You can’t blame him for taking his time considering the huge success of the first video. If you know anything about Stew’s previous works, you wouldn’t think twice about why he chose the middle of the week to premiere one of the year’s most anticpated videos. The date is December 1st (or 1201) and as far as I know, it’ll be showing at Terrible One. Get your plane tickets now.
Also, be sure to support Stew by pre-ordering the Anthem II deluxe editon. The DVD includes lots of extras including re-mastered versions of Stew’s previous works and an autographed poster. Get it while you can since this one will be hard to get a hold of once it’s out.
Comedy or Dis?
by Lalo on Oct.22, 2010, under videos
Someone put this on another site today and I thought it was too funny to not post. Apparently the parody has ruffled a few feathers because one of Cult’s team riders has threatened to leave the creator laying on the ground. Since when has BMX lost its sense of humor? The way I see it is that someone had to really pay attention to the original video in order to make a spoof of it. Wasn’t that what Cult intended?
What do you think, comedy or dis?

I was glad to come across this edit on Cult’s website. It’s good to see companies recognize talent by flowing parts. Growing up 4 hours from Albuquerque, I’d often cross paths with Nate. The guy has shredded as long as I’ve know him. Here is Nasty Nate doing what he does best.
Get well soon TJ

TJ Lavin is in a medically induced coma today after going down hard in yesterday’s Dew Tour qualifying round. The video shows him missing his pedals on a Nac Nac and slamming hard into the ground. Let’s hope he pulls through. Keep him in your thoughts. (continue reading…)
