The Beacon Bmx

Accelerate- The Bmx Movie is in the works and it looks to me like it has the potential to be the best bike flick since RAD.  There are many talented videographers in bmx, but since RAD there really hasn’t been a full length bmx drama that’s made it to Hollywood.  Eric Bugbee is the Producer/Director and has started a website to create buzz around this film.  His goal is to create enough interest to score a movie deal and get it into theatres.  Some big bmx names are featured in Accelerate.  Joel Moody, Chris Doyle and Bill Allen (aka Cru Jones) are in the main cast, but you’ll also see cameos from Scotty Cranmer, Van Homan, Garrett Reynolds and Garrett Byrnes to name a few.  The plot sounds surprisingly good too.  It definitely looks like a movie anyone could get into, so be a bro and visit the website.  It would be nice to see this make it to theatres.

I remember being blown away when this video first came out. It starred so many good riders and the spots ridden were like none I’d ever seen. It’s also the first video I recall watching where Ruben developed his signature style (smooth as hell/light bike). Before this, he rode a heavy-ass Huffy and did tricks like indian-airs out of pools. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Ruben is the man.

Don’t get me wrong, this video isn’t all about Ruben. It also features some serious heavy hitters. Some of my favorites were Van Homan, Marcus Wilke, Nate Wessel and Davo Osoto. If you haven’t seen this video, head over to BMXMDB to catch the rest of it. It’ll definitely be worth your time.

Who would have know that a bunch of wooden pallets could be so fun? I came across this video today and it served as a reminder of how stupid I am. Like it was yesterday, I remember this contest being hyped up like crazy. It was the second contest FBM was hosting and knew it had to be better than the first. I recall looking up plane tickets to New York and remember them being very reasonable. Despite knowing several dudes who would have been willing to go with a day’s notice, I never got the tickets and missed out on one of the best BMX contests of all time. I hope FBM gives these contests another go someday. Until then we’ll have to settle for second hand stories and this video.

Back in 1986 BMX was at all time high in terms of popularity. I’ve heard that if you told a chick you rode freestyle back then she would instantly rip off your pants and drop her panties. Well, not really but BMX was really mainstream then. Around the same time Hollywood jumped on the bandwagon and released the epic biking drama Rad. The movie is about the trials and tribulations of an aspiring BMXer who reaches his dream of racing at the world’s toughest race at Hell Track. It’s actually a pretty good movie, but I couldn’t imagine a modern BMX drama doing well nowadays. Something tells me it wouldn’t turn out anything like Rad since the current scene is so different. I don’t think Roger Ebert would give a damn about a bunch of girl pant wearing dudes looking to blow their mom’s money on weed.
I highly recommend you head to BMXMDB to watch the whole thing. I posted part 9 of 10 since it’s my favorite part, but start from the beginning if you take your movie watching seriously. Enjoy!

I came across this video on Vital and thought i’d share it.  This Lazlo fella sound like a pretty legit dude and it’s cool to see him take an interest in bmx.  If you visit his Vimeo page there is also an impressive Jay-Z edit he did.  It’s kinda a music video/behind the scenes thing.  Check it out.  I like this guy’s style.  It’s super clean.

I’m sure you have heard dudes brag when they air so high they touch the rafters. Well, Niki Croft takes this to another level. This looks like it hurt like hell but apparently he walked away unscathed.

The S&M dudes went on a little trip from California to Austin recently and destroyed most of the cities along the way. Considering the rippers aboard their hot-boxed van, you knew there would be some good footage coming from that tour. Here is a quick edit they put together for their YouTube channel.
Living in Texas, I’m bummed I missed them. It’s fun to see them ride some of the spots I have ridden before in El Paso and Austin. You might recognize one of the ditches they’re riding from the EP Ed photos I posted recently.

In my mission to cover the up-and-comers I thought I’d post this edit I came across on Vimeo. I don’t know much about this kid other than the fact he kills it. I can’t tell but I’d guess he is 13-14 by the looks of him. I read that Macneil has their eye on him. I’m glad. He doesn’t hold out.
