What’s up with Standard?

I came across this video and it brought up a few thoughts. Why isn’t Standard as popular as it used to be? They clearly know what they’re doing and put out a great product but I don’t see a huge demand for them anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I know there are tons of loyal SBC followers out there that might disagree, but you don’t see as many kids riding them as you did 10 years ago. At one point, if you thought of American bmx frame manufacturers, you first thought of S&M and Standard. Nowadays when people mention in-house frame builders it’s S&M, FBM or Solid that come to mind.
Is it marketing? Is it company image? Or do they simply need a trendier team? Who knows.
The only thing I could think of the others are doing different is they build frames for third party companies. As far as I know, Standard doesn’t do this and coincidentally their status has suffered. Hell, neither Albe’s nor Empire stock their frames. I hope they make a come back. They definitely have the potential.
